On 9 September 2025, the Slovak Parliament approved a set of amendments (mainly) to the Energy Act, the Renewables Act and the Act on Regulation of Network Industries, thus transposing the EU’s new electricity market design reform into Slovak law.
The amendment introduces key updates across the energy, renewables, and hydrogen sectors – including new transparency rules for network operators, newly introduced support for nuclear power generation, and a new framework for electricity sharing among customers.
It also launches Slovakia’s first comprehensive legal framework for hydrogen, and modernizes (though not quite to the satisfaction of the industry) the rules on renewable energy projects and environmental permitting.
The changes will take effect gradually between 1 November 2025, 1 January 2026 and 1 September 2026.
